Glass light guide rod is a solid cylindrical or rectangular rod-shaped optical element that efficiently transmits light from one end to the other using the principle of total internal reflection. It is made of high-purity optical glass, and its core function is to conduct light energy rather than image information. The photodetector provides various shapes of light guides such as circular, square, hexagonal, etc.

Core working principle: Total Internal Reflection

  1. Optical dense medium:The refractive index of a glass light guide rod is higher than its surrounding environment (usually air or low refractive index coating).

  2. critical angle:When the light is greater thancritical angleWhen the angle is incident on the interface between glass and air (or coating).

  3. Total reflection:Light rays that meet the critical angle condition will not be refracted, but will be completely reflected back into the interior of the glass rod.

  4. Repeated reflection:Light continuously undergoes total internal reflection between the inner walls of the rod, propagating along the axial direction of the light guide rod from the input end to the output end
